Playground Mural

(Leuven, Belgium)

I was invited to Leuven, Belgium through the Scratching the Surface Mural Program to create a ground mural for De Grasmus Elementary School’s playground. The school had a number of students with autism whose needs had to be addressed in the design.

This was a unique project with specific challenges in creating a fun, engaging design while meeting the needs of the students. In planning the project, I consulted with teachers and staff to develop the design and listened to their feedback. The end result is a mural that students enjoyed but would not be overwhelmed by. It was rewarding to hear that after the project was completed, the students even came up with their own games to interact with the mural’s design.
