CADES School

(Swarthmore, PA)

CADES is a school for children with disabilities. The school wanted a mural at its entrance that incorporated students’ artwork and gave them a sense of ownership in the finished piece.

To make that happen, we attached special devices to students’ wheelchairs and walkers that allowed them to roll out paint patterns on polytab (or parachute cloth) on the ground. Once the students completed their portion of the project, I created a design that collaged their work with abstract pieces I had painted. The finished mural is truly a collaboration.
